Need Dermatologist and other experts for free medical camp in Mahul
A community of 30,000 people who belong to the economically weaker section of the society is suffering from life-threatening diseases and a large number of them have succumbed to those diseases. This community has been forced to live in a toxic neighbourhood of Mumbai called Mahul that has led to the death of more than 300 people in a matter of one and half year and spread of serious pollution-related diseases like Asthma, Tuberculosis, Paralysis, Cancer, Heart Attack, severe skin diseases, weakening of eyesight, depression and so on in almost all the 5,500 families living there.
The average family income is between Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 20,000. With this meager income, it becomes a difficult choice for people to decide whether they should spend on medical expenses or on their daily/monthly expenses. If they decide to spend on medical expenses, then they are not able to take care of the expenses of education of children or other daily/monthly expenses or if they decide to take care of daily/ monthly expenses they are left to live an uncertain painful life.
There are several judgments by two top Indian Courts that have directed the Government of Maharashtra to mitigate the level of pollution in Mahul and also shift the population to a safer place. Unfortunately, the government has failed to implement any of these judgments which are resulting in more and more people suffering and risking their lives.
In this situation, we think it is our duty to help reduce the sufferings and not wait until the government decides to take the issue seriously and act finally.
We are happy that finally after a lot of appeals and requests, a small team of public-spirited doctors came forward because of which we were able to hold the first two free health camps. However, we need to hold more weekly/bi-monthly camps in order to help them restore their health and provide all medical support for the long term. Since suffering is of a mass scale, there is pressure on a few doctors holding the camp. Hence we need to have more and more doctors on board.
In the coming next medical camp, we are in need of one or more Dermatologists as the majority of diseases are related to skin. Other experts are also welcome.
Our next camp is on 15th Dec 2019 from 10 am to 1 pm.
We will be very grateful to you if you can help us connect with experts who can join us for the coming camps. Our contact details are given below.
Thank you
