Slum Children living around the Deonar Dumping Ground experience exploitation the violation of their fundamental rights on a daily basis, without even being aware of their rights, and struggle daily for food, clothing, shelter, water, electricity and education. GBGBA has started a Children Learning Centre in Sanjay Nagar, Deonar, to help this vulnerable community. The centre, which opened in June 2018, has achieved an increase in the number of students attending their class, and has been working on enhancing their self-esteem and learning capacity. Children who had never experienced education are now able to read and write in Hindi and English.
Children who were previously attending public schools but poor in academics are now learning the basics of Mathematics, Science and languages in the learning centre. We are planning to have fun learning classes, sports and other extracurricular activities in future.
